All correspondence should be directed to Jose (I’m just the messenger). *GSEC Proposal, summary: * Several developed countries have found many advantages in the implementation of electronic health records. A majority of studies have demonstrated the efficacy of health information technologies in improving quality and efficiency in the collection and management of the patients´ information; even more, these systems tend to have a good acceptability from the users. In Peru, we may use this technology but there are a lot of fears for the cost of the system. However, we believe in all the benefits this system implies, and we are actually implementing a project for the use of electronic health records in some health establishments in Callao, Peru. I am part of an iSchool-Evans-HCDE student research team that is gathering photographic evidence to understand what people like about places where they use computers and the Internet: libraries, coffee shops, community centers, work, home, etc. We want to understand the features of these venues that people value. Think about a venue where you use computers and the Internet. What do you value about that space? Here’s how you can help… Take a photo that depicts a feature of a venue where you use computers and the Internet that you value. Email your photo to uw.photo.submit(a)gmail.com. You will then be prompted to answer a few questions to help us understand your photo. (Less than 5 minutes.) We welcome multiple photos. Hi all, This Tuesday the 26th Gayo Mhila will be giving a talk at 3:30pm. He will be giving an overview of the work that he is doing with D-Tree International, including CommCare and e-IMCI. He will also be discussing some of the techniques that D-Tree uses to get end users involved in the design and refinement of their applications. Gayo is incredibly insightful and is a leader in designing and deploying mobile health programs--it should be a great talk! We will also be going to lunch on the ave on Tuesday (probably around 1130am). Email me directly if you're interested in that. The focus areas of the workshop include, but are not limited to: Interfaces for interaction with multimedia content: Audio, images and video content is easy to understand for low-literacy users. From an interaction perspective, therefore, we need to specifically look at interfaces that can enable easy creation and navigation of such content. Intuitive Interfaces: Any interface that has a high learning curve is always difficult to proliferate in developing regions. Most prominent interfaces are either intuitive to use or are easy enough to spread by word of mouth. Intuitiveness of an interface is the key to its proliferation. Collaborative learning interfaces: Proxy usage of IT services is very common in developing regions. It is important to develop interfaces that enable users to directly use the services irrespective of their literacy levels or exposure to IT. Interfaces that enable users to facilitate other users to navigate content or access services through collaborative usage will help proliferation of services. Language independent interfaces: There are around 2000 languages in Africa and more than 20 in India. So interfaces that are not too language processing dependent would be more scalable and have wider applicability. Case studies and evaluations: of applications/interfaces successfully deployed or tested in the areas of healthcare, education, e-governance, agriculture etc. We seek original, unpublished papers in the following three categories: (a) Position papers that describe novel ideas that can lead to interesting research directions, (b) Early results or work-in-progress that has significant promise, or, (c) Full papers. Papers should be of 4-6 pages in length in the IUI publication format. The LaTeX and Microsoft Word templates are available at the workshop website. All submissions should be in the PDF format and should be submitted electronically through the IUI4DR Easychair Conference site (https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=iui4dr11) Since the submission deadlines are dependent on the IUI conference, we will not be able to grant any extensions in any circumstances.
