Consultancy Opportunity: Bahmni open source HMIS Community Director

Hello All, The Bahmni Coalition has an exciting opportunity for a consultant for a 12-month contract to serve as the Bahmni Community Director. The Bahmni Community Director is a critical position to the long-term success of the Coalition. The key responsibilities of this consultancy are to ensure engagement within the Coalition, to define and execute a shared road map, to ensure management and operations needs of the coalition are addressed, and to identify funding opportunities for the Coalition and coordinate funding applications and reporting. Bahmni is a community-driven open source Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) integrating OpenMRS Electronic Medical Record (EMR), OpenELIS Laboratory Information System (LIS), and Odoo Stock Management and Billing. Bahmni has an estimated 75+ implementations in 25+ countries. The Bahmni Coalition is a group of organizations who are working together to establish and execute a common roadmap for the Bahmni product, to jointly resource the Bahmni project, and to coordinate in enhancing the Bahmni product. This Coalition is currently made up of over 15 diverse organizations - non-governmental organization, software development and implementation organizations and academic institutions. However, these techniques have seen sparse adoption owing to the high costs of manual data collection and limited connectivity solutions. FarmBeats, is an AI and IoT platform for agriculture that enables seamless data collection from various sensors, cameras, and drones. Our system design explicitly accounts for weather-related power and Internet outages, and has had several long-term deployments across the US. *Bio:* Zerina Kapetanovic is a PhD student in Electrical and Computer Engineering department at the University of Washington. She works with Professor Joshua Smith in the Sensor Systems lab and focuses on wireless technology such as battery-free sensing and low-power communication.

While both systems are largely adopting the centralized architecture of traditional cellular deployments, this design comes with fundamental disadvantages that limit how these networks grow and develop. As a response, we present Distributed LTE (dLTE), an architecture offering the high radio performance of licensed and coordinated waveforms as well as the openness to organic expansion and growth of traditional WiFi. We challenge the assumption that good performance requires a centralized packet processing core, and propose hybrid approaches to coordination that prioritize system openness. We argue that dLTE is a particularly good fit for rural areas, where the LTE waveform is more appropriate than WiFi, yet it is uneconomical for centralized providers to deploy traditional cellular systems. *Bio: *Matthew Johnson is a graduate student at the University of Washington working with Dr. Kurtis Heimerl on new tools for community cellular networks. Computing and Sustainable Societies 2019 Accra, Ghana | 3-5 July 2019 Conference Announcement This is a preliminary announcement of the second annual ACM SIGCAS Conference on Computing and Sustainable Societies (COMPASS2019) which will be held in Accra, Ghana from July 3-5, 2019. COMPASS is a re-creation of the ACM DEV conference, which was held annually between 2010 and 2016. The first COMPASS was held in Menlo Park, California in 2018. The COMPASS conference expands the focus of the original ACM DEV conference to explicitly welcome work on underrepresented communities worldwide and to include work on sustainability. To ensure strong technical contributions, the conference will accept papers based on tracks corresponding to the computing areas they draw upon. The tracks for the 2018 conference were Systems, HCI, Data Science/AI, and Applications. Accra, Ghana, as the capital of a dynamic west African nation will be an excellent venue for the conference to bring together researchers working in areas of information and communication for development (ICTD), HCI, computational sustainability, and AI for social impact. The conference will be held at a hotel in downtown Accra. The conference will have full papers and notes. The program committee chairs will be announced soon along with a call for papers. The submission date is likely to be in March 2019. Call for Papers -------------------- LIMITS 2019 Fifth Workshop on Computing within LIMITS June 10-11, 2018 Lappeenranta, Finland http://computingwithinlimits.org/2019/ The ACM LIMITS workshop aims to foster discussion on the impact of present and future ecological, material, energetic, and societal limits on computing. These topics are seldom discussed in contemporary computing research. A key aim of the workshop is to promote innovative, concrete research, potentially of an interdisciplinary nature, that focuses on technologies, critiques, techniques, and contexts for computing within fundamental economic and ecological limits. A longer-term goal is to build a community around relevant topics and research. We hope to impact society through the design and development of computing systems in the abundant present for use in a future of limits. Tech & Social Good: Could You Share Syllabi & Readings?

Hi All, Does anyone know whether there's a collection of all syllabi and readings on technology and social good (or public good or social change)? If such a collection doesn't exist, could you help me create one? The readings can be from any discipline, seminal or not, and academic or not. I'd like to get cross-cultural readings, so we have representation of diverse perspectives from around the world.
