Fwd: Work with current IADer abroad, funding available
---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Theresa Costa <tacosta@ucdavis.edu> Date: Mon, Sep 28, 2015 at 10:28 AM Subject: Work with current IADer abroad, funding available To: "iadalum@ucdavis.edu" <iadalum@ucdavis.edu> Cc: "Elana Peach-Fine (elana.ipo@gmail.com)" <elana.ipo@gmail.com> Dear IAD alumni, I am the program coordinator for UC Davis' Research and Innovation Fellowship for Agriculture (RIFA, http://ip.ucdavis.edu/what/rifa) Program. This program funds IAD graduate students (and some graduate students from other UC's and ag related fields) to conduct 2-6 month long research or practice-based projects on agriculture and food systems (or related social, economic and environmental issues). We have a lot of academic support to prepare grad students (including faculty mentors and a full quarter of project planning) and funding to send 20+ students abroad, but we are really lacking host opportunities to receive them! I was really hoping that some of you out there might have some projects in developing countries that you could use some very creative, motivated and free graduate students! This is a great resource! All you have to do is fill out the attached form and then starting in early October students will begin to contact you. You can pick the student you feel is the best fit for you and write them a letter of support. The student then applies with your letter to our program for funding. The form can be as detailed or vague as you want, you can use the full 700 words to explain in full detail what the grad student should do or you can very vaguely tell them in 100 words the goal of your organization and that you might be interested in hearing how they would like to fit in with a project of their own creation. The form is due back to me (elana.ipo@gmail.com) by October 6, but the earlier the better. I attached some more details in a one-page flyer as well as the host form here. Thank you so much for reading this and thinking it over (please feel free to send on to friends in other organizations, foreign universities, private or research institutions- any thing goes!)
