Our group has a User Interaction Developer
research assistant position open for autumn quarter, and potentially longer.
We are a group of faculty, staff and students
working on domestic and global health informatics projects including syndromic
surveillance for the CDC, the largest database of HIV treatment data in North
America, and an open-source laboratory information system used around the
world. Our team has solid back-end & data management skills; we're looking
for someone who enjoys focusing on the front-end, preferably using
evidence-based methodologies.
Position
Description:
Responsible for the
design, development, and implementation of graphical user interfaces for clinical
and public health information systems supporting the Clinical Informatics
Research Group (CIRG).
•
Front end web design and development using web technologies – i.e. CSS,
Javascript, JSP, PHP, etc.
•
Evaluate, select, develop, and integrate user interaction methodologies to
create complex systems in support of CIRG research activities
•
Conduct user interaction evaluation with project stakeholders and end users
•
Design and generate graphics using graphics editing software
•
Supporting documentation of design decisions for projects
Required Skills
•
Front-end (user interface) web development (eg HTML, Javascript, CSS, etc)
•
Advanced cross-platform javascript and CSS (eg AJAX, JSON, JQuery, Prototype;
etc)
•
Server-side generation of user interfaces (eg JSP, PHP, ASP, etc)
•
Demonstrated ability to resolve technical problems in an independent manner
•
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Must be able to
communicate technical issues to, and provide system level support for, a
variety of collaborators and “customers” both internal and external to the
University.
Desired:
•
B.S. in Computer Science, Human Computer Interaction, or related field
•
Graphic design experience
•
Proficiency with graphics creation/editing software
•
Comprehensive knowledge of interaction design
•
Eye for detail and graphic design, including basic design principles (colors,
composition, fonts, hierarchy and organization of information, balance, etc)
•
User-centered design methodologies (heuristic evaluation, interactive
prototyping, participatory design)
•
Ability to explain design decisions based on supported theories or research
•
Subversion or other version control repository software
•
Background in Public or Clinical health
