This Thursday at Change we will be hosting a talk by Ilda Ladeira from the ICT4D Lab at the University of Cape Town in South Africa.
Ilda Ladeira is a final year PhD student from the ICT4D Lab at the University of Cape Town run by Prof. Gary Marsden and Prof. Edwin Blake. She will be giving a talk describing a number of projects from the ICT4D lab including work in e-Health, e-Learning, mobile internet, community information, climate prediction and job seeking technology. She will also talk about her own work which spans two interest groups at the UCT Computer Science Department: that of the ICT4D Lab and the Virtual Environments Group (VEG). Her PhD is primarily concerned with digital storytelling as a means of preserving narratives of people who lived though South Africa’s Apartheid regime. This work is being carried out in collaboration with the District Six Museum in Cape Town. She has used ethnography to understand real-life oral storytelling in order to inspire the design of virtual storytellers capable of dynamic and interactive storytelling.
