HEALTH IN COMPLEX HUMANITARIAN EMERGENCIES

 

July 15 - 19, 2013  -  Seattle, Washington

 

The focus of this course is public health and epidemiology in refugee and internally displaced populations affected by complex humanitarian emergencies and natural disasters.

This course covers the technical and management principles that are the basis of planning, implementing, and evaluating health programs for acutely displaced populations in developing countries with an emphasis on refugees in camp situations.

Topics include rapid assessment, surveillance, and camp management as well as major health challenges including infectious diseases, nutrition, water and sanitation, and vaccinations in the context of humanitarian emergencies and natural disasters.  In addition, the role and integration of international, government, and non-governmental organizations (NGO) during an international humanitarian relief operation will be discussed.
